Celebrating

San Mateo County Fair

Just 84 days before the start of the 2018 Fair, my wife and 4-month old son drove over 12 hours to move to San Mateo County. Since then, we have fallen in love with living here. It is a county of inclusiveness and diversity spread throughout many vibrant cities where an urban metropolis of innovation and technology sits with the tradition of agriculture and livestock. This county has truly become our home. It will also become the birthplace of our second son.

San Mateo County embodies much of what is best of our bay. As a fair, our hope is to be a microcosm of our community. The Year 2019 marks the 250th Anniversary of the Discovery of the San Francisco Bay. Therefore, it is fitting that the San Mateo County Fair will be “Celebrating the Best of the Bay” as our sub theme.

Celebrating In 2019

We will be celebrating the Ohlone, who were the inhabitants of this county when it was discovered. The San Mateo County Historical Association will be providing an exhibit that includes information and a video of our county’s history with hands on activities of arts and crafts from that era.

We will be celebrating the hard work of 4-H and FFA youth as they exhibit animals they have been raising throughout the year at our Fair Farm.

We will be celebrating other animals from kangaroos in our Aussie Kingdom to goats in our petting zoo, to racing pigs.

We will be celebrating the creativity of county residents entering fine arts, home arts, STEAM, youth exhibits, culinary arts, floral arts, agriculture, and garden landscape.

We will be celebrating talents in the form of dance, song, and instruments on our community stage, along with Chinese Acrobats and a hypnotist on our Plaza stage.

We will be celebrating the skills of Mobile Glass Studio’s glassblowing demonstrations and Boom! Percussion’s ability to play on a variety of different items.

We will be celebrating with the game winners, and the fun-seekers at the Butler Amusements carnival.

We will be celebrating African American history at the Domini Hoskins Black History Museum, Dia de la Feria, Senior Day in partnership with San Mateo Daily Journal, our kids and special needs community.

We will celebrate new activities such as the Selfie Museum sponsored by the San Francisco Chronicle, and Radio.com’s Silent Disco.

For the first time, we will be celebrating our Pacific Islands community with Pacific Islands Day in partnership with Pacific Islands Together on Sunday, June 9.

Another first, we will be celebrating our LGBTQIA community with Family PRIDE Day in partnership with the San Mateo County Pride Center on Monday, June 10.

So much to celebrate and all packed within nine days. My family and I are so proud and feel blessed to call this county home. We hope to be here for a long time and we look forward to “Celebrating the Best of the Bay” with you from Saturday, June 8 to Sunday, June 16.
